Constant monitoring by the Society
The committee keeps a watching brief on all development applications ensuring their compatibility with Planning guidelines and their impact on the Darling Point environment.
All reports are filed electronically in the database.
Submissions are prepared and submitted to the appropriate authority.
Observing that current DA’s are compatible with Council’s site specific DCP for Darling Point. Objecting if they are not compatible. Every DA impacts on surrounding properties, streetscape, loss of light, bulk and noise issues.
IHAP and WLPP
In 2018 a new development application system came into force called IHAP (Independent Hearing Application Panel). The local branch is the WLPP (Woollahra Local Planning Panel). All developments with a value of and above $5 million to $30 million will be automatically referred to the WLPP. All developments above $30 million will be referred to the Regional Development Panel. There are 5 panels for Woollahra, each comprising 4 members who meet twice a month: one community representative and two experts with qualifications in planning, heritage, law and transport, the Chair has the casting vote.
Most routine development applications will continue to be determined by Council staff.

At full meeting on Monday 10 February 2019 Woollahra Municipal Council voted to approve the Voluntary Planning Policy with 7 votes against 7 in favor and the Mayor having the casting vote voted in favor. So the motion was passed 8 to 7 in favor of the Voluntary Planning Agreement Policy with all the Liberal Councillors voting in favor.
